Your Headshots Don’t Have to Be Boring (And Honestly… They Shouldn’t Be) There’s this idea floating around that headshots have to be… safe. Neutral background. Arms crossed. A polite little smile that says “I am professional and also slightly uncomfortable.”
And sure — that version exists. But it’s not the only option. And it’s definitely not the most interesting one. Because here’s the truth: Your headshots should feel like you.
When Lindsay showed up for her session, we didn’t start with “Okay, stand here and smile.”
We started with energy, movement and curiosity. With the question: what actually feels like you when you walk into a room? And from there, everything opened up. There’s something really powerful about giving yourself permission to take up space in a different way.
To lean instead of stand perfectly straight.
To laugh instead of forcing a smile.
To look away instead of always looking directly at the camera.
To wear something that feels like your everyday confidence — not a costume version of “professional.”
Because the goal isn’t to look like everyone else.
It’s to look like the version of you that your clients, your audience, your people are going to recognize the second they meet you.
With Lindsay, we played with contrast. Clean, minimal frames that feel elevated and timeless. Mixed with moodier, more editorial moments that feel bold and a little unexpected. A balance of polished and real, structured and relaxed, professional and still very much her.
Headshots are not just a box to check. They’re a chance to tell a story.
